Promote Support for Marriage Equality in California’s API Communities!

Nothing is more important to APIs than family, and families headed by same-sex couples are very much part of our community. Unfortunately, religious extremists are threatening to undermine the rights of these members within our community. As early as November 2006, there will be an initiative on the California ballot to amend the state constitution to repeal the existing safety net for legally recognized domestic partners and to permanently ban marriage protections for same-sex couples.

To help defeat any such threat, API Equality – a statewide coalition of API organizations and individuals – is committed to working in our API communities for equal marriage rights and fair treatment of LGBT families through education and advocacy. With chapters in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the coalition has received endorsements from all of the state’s major API civil rights groups, and includes civil rights advocates, grassroots activists, and faith leaders among its members.
